Dalgona Coffee is a simple whipped coffee drink with a bold, fluffy coffee layer over cold milk and ice. This version makes two glasses and uses an Instant Pot milk frother, so the coffee mixture comes together with very little hands-on whisking.

Why You’ll Love This Dalgona Coffee

It uses just a few everyday ingredients, looks beautiful in a glass and gives you a creamy café-style coffee at home. The whipped coffee is strong and bold on its own, but once stirred into the cold milk it becomes smooth, frothy and refreshing.

Easy Dalgona Coffee

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee, such as Nescafé
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp hot water
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • Ice cubes, as needed

Instructions

  1. Add the instant coffee, sugar and hot water to the Instant Pot milk frother, staying within your model’s fill guidance.
  2. Froth until the coffee mixture becomes thick, fluffy and light caramel-brown.
  3. Fill two serving glasses with ice.
  4. Pour about 1 cup cold milk into each glass, leaving room at the top for the whipped coffee.
  5. Spoon the whipped coffee mixture over the milk.
  6. Serve immediately and stir the whipped coffee into the milk before drinking.

What I Used

For this recipe, I used an Instant Pot milk frother to whip the coffee, sugar and hot water until thick and fluffy. Frother models can vary, so follow the fill and use guidance for your specific machine.

Recipe Tips

Use instant coffee. Instant coffee gives Dalgona its signature whipped texture. Regular ground coffee is not a direct substitute.

Keep the classic ratio. Equal amounts of instant coffee, sugar and hot water help create a stable, fluffy topping.

Serve it right away. Spoon the whipped coffee over cold milk just before serving, then stir everything together before drinking.

Prefer it less sweet? You can experiment with slightly less sugar, but reducing it can make the whipped topping less stable.
