Easy Bread Delight

This easy Bread Delight starts with plain toasted bread, which gives the dessert a little structure before the warm milk mixture is poured over it. The milk is gently cooked with sugar and butter until it begins to thicken, then flavored with green cardamom. Pour it over the toasted bread while warm and finish with almonds for a simple homemade dessert.
Easy Bread Delight
Ingredients
- 4 slices bread
- 1 litre milk (about 4¼ cups)
- 4 tbsp sugar, or to taste
- 6 tbsp butter
- ½ tsp green cardamom powder
- Almonds, for garnish
Instructions
- Toast the bread: Toast the bread slices plain, without butter or oil, until lightly golden. Cut each slice diagonally into triangles and arrange them in a serving dish.
- Boil the milk: Pour the milk into a saucepan and bring it to a boil.
- Add sugar and butter: Add the sugar and butter. Continue cooking while stirring regularly until the milk begins to thicken slightly.
- Add cardamom: Stir in the green cardamom powder once the milk has started to thicken.
- Soak the bread: Pour the warm milk mixture evenly over the toasted bread triangles, making sure the bread is well soaked.
- Garnish: Finish with almonds and serve as desired.
Recipe Tip
Do not reduce the milk until it becomes extremely thick. You want enough creamy liquid for the toasted bread to absorb. The bread is toasted plain first, which helps it hold its shape once the warm milk is added.
Sweetness
Four tablespoons of sugar gives the 1-litre milk mixture a lightly sweet flavor. Taste and adjust if you prefer your dessert sweeter.
